Kenny Nyhus Fadil is the writer and publisher behind Vinylgearhq. I’m a lifelong polymath whose curiosity has cycled through dozens of hands-on hobbies, and vinyl playback is one of the recurring ones. I run a mid-tier turntable in my Swedish listening room and set it up the way a setup tech does — by protractor and stylus gauge first, by ear second. VinylGearHQ is where I work out the alignment, anti-skate, and azimuth details that actually get a cartridge tracking cleanly.
Background
I treat the deck as a mechanical problem as much as a musical one: resonance, speed stability, and geometry, with the reward being music that comes off the record clean. There’s usually a plinth or isolation tweak on the bench, because vinyl is the hobby where my workshop meets my listening room. I run a small network of niche reference sites, each rooted in one of my interests, and the format is the same across all of them — hub-and-spoke clusters of articles written from hands-on setup and testing rather than from manufacturer marketing.
How I Work
- I set up and test gear before recommending it. Where a topic falls outside what I’ve worked with directly, I say so in the article and link to the sources I’m relying on.
- I correct mistakes openly. If something I wrote is wrong and a reader emails me, I update the page and add a dated correction note.
- I don’t publish sponsored posts. Articles either come from my own testing or from review samples I keep for the review period; the review is honest either way.
- I update as things move. Pricing, models, and software change, so the date stamps reflect the last meaningful review of each article.
What I Don’t Do
I don’t accept link-insertion pitches. I don’t run guest posts. I don’t publish AI-generated content disguised as my own. The bylines on this site reflect actual authorship and actual testing.
